Northfield, New Jersey is a city in Atlantic County. As of the United States 2000 Census, the city population was 7,725.

Northfield is a suburban community located on the mainland near the New Jersey shore between Atlantic City and Ocean City, and between Pleasantville and Linwood on U.S. Route 9. It has an area of 3.5 square miles and is nearly square in shape. Main roads leading to Atlantic City, New York, Philadelphia and Washington are easily accessible. By car, it takes 20 minutes to reach Atlantic City and 2.5 hours to New York. Philadelphia is a mere 90 minutes away and Washington only 3 hours using the Cape May ferry.

Northfield was incorporated as a city by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 21, 1905, from portions of Egg Harbor Township. A portion of Egg Harbor Township was transferred to Northfield in 1931, and then reverted back to Egg Harbor Township in 1933.

As with surrounding communities, Northfield's main industry is tourism associated with the ocean shoreline and beaches and the 24/7 attraction of Atlantic City's nightlife. But, as a suburban bedroom community, Northfield also enjoys a heathly and thriving family environment, with youth and water sports, arts and culture and excellent educational opportunities leading the way.
