Ventnor New Jersey Homes for Sale

Ventnor City is a city in Atlantic County, New Jersey on the Atlantic shore of Absecon Island. As of the United States 2000 Census, the city’s population was 12,910.

Ventnor City was carved out of portions of neighboring Egg Harbor Township. In the latter part of the 19th Century, S. Bartram Richards, the secretary-treasurer of the Camden and Atlantic Land Company, which owned much of the territory south of Atlantic City, visited Ventnor, England. He and his wife became so impressed with the beauty of the locality, that on January 8, 1889, when the land company sought a name for the section of land south of Atlantic City, Mrs. S. Bartram Richards suggested Ventnor, asserting that the name would be an ideal fit for this exciting new area because of its likeness to the English town they remembered so fondly. The name was formally adopted the following day. Ventnor City was eventually incorporated by the New Jersey Legislature on March 17, 1903.
